AND NOW: our long and winding journey brings us to what quickly became our favourite Mexican city, Guanajuato, where the streets fluttered with coloured flags and music, where the buildings burst with colour and life, where everything great about Mexico came together in one neatly packaged town, nestled safely in a small valley. We'd arrived quite by accident in the middle of the Cervantino, one of the biggest arts festivals in Latin America, and we found ourselves in a swirling cyclone of amazing music, art, and to Adam's delight, the most incredibly good-looking population of people in the entire world. Trying to find a decent excuse to hang around, we enrolled in a Spanish school and were thrown quickly back into the workaday routine, waking at 8am and rolling painfully out of bed and down to the local market, where we purchased our 5-peso breakfast of delicious bread, average cheese and godawful ham, inevitably washed down by a shitty 10-peso Oxxo coffee. We'd then wander up the steep hill to school, trying (and generally failing) to get our heads together during the three hours of classes before rolling back down the hill for bagels and coffee at the cafe below our hostel. During the nights we'd wander back and forth between bars humming with great bands, talking and drinking and occasionally, regrettably, dancing as well. It was a truly terrible way to spend a week. As the week wore on the party got fiercer and the nights more surreal; we watched from a pedestrian ...

Guanajuato is a city and municipality in central Mexico and the capital of the state of the same name. It is located in a narrow valley, which makes the streets of the city narrow and winding. Most are alleys that cars cannot pass through, and some are long sets of stairs up the mountainsides. Many of the city's thoroughfares are partially or fully underground. The historic center of the city has numerous small plazas and colonial-era mansions, churches and civil constructions built using pink or green sandstone. The origin and growth of the city resulted from the discovery of mines in the mountains surrounding it. The mines were so rich that the city was one of the most influential during the colonial period. One of the mines, La Valenciana, accounted for two-thirds of the world's silver production at the height of its production. Initially, the city was divided into four barrios or neighbourhoods called Marfil/Santiago, Tepetapa, Santa Ana and Santa Fe. The last is considered the oldest and is located in the current colonia of Pastita. The city was split by a small river that serves as a main thoroughfare. Because of the extremely hilly terrain, only one main road enters the city and another ones leaves. The main street into the city, called Belaunzarán, now runs for three km underground, and follows the original course of the Guanajuato River. Unlike the regular layouts of many other Spanish and Mexican cities, the streets of Guanajuato follow the extreme irregularity ...

From the Website: Football and theatre have one thing in common: they both feed the spectators yearning for emotion. The fascination of football is always based on the option of the existential with its combination of speed and drama, the proximity of triumph and failure and the identification potential with winners and losers. This is its theatrical moment and as such it is entirely appropriate for the theatre. But how to bring theatre and football together? Like this: a large public place, an imaginary playing field high above the heads of the players and the spectators; a figure around whom the evening pivots and who is able to focus on the various aspects of football: the trainer. His figure is associatively conceptualised. It has no in-depth psychological profile of its own, but instead is more of a personified playing transparency, upon which footballs different aspects, relationships and mechanisms can be illustrated. In connection with the conceptual use of audiovisual materials, PAN.OPTIKUM outlines the fictitious biography of a trainer and sketches his career through several stations from the pupil kicking a ball to the celebrated player and trainer; it accompanies the rise, crises and return of the protagonist.

The construction site is located in a ravine in the city of Guanajuato, capital of the State with the same name in Mexico. The ravine used to be filled with trash and rubble; UBSA leveled the rest using "tepetate" or dirt. Precast concrete blocks were used to build 40 feet tall retention walls. Foundations were made using piles of up to 90 feet deep in the filled areas and spread footings at the hill side. Precast concrete structure was used for the two main buildings (two levels) and the underground parking lot underneath building three. A hybrid structure of steel and precast concrete was used at the cinemas. Block walls were built in the main buildings and concrete was uesd for sumps and the underground parking.
